There has been more than one time I have been called crazy (or loopy, or kooky, or what-have-you) for being a city girl with a yen for a farm. Luckily, there seem to be more and more of my type, lately. Not sure why, but grateful that people seem to appreciate nature, the simpler things, animals...or just maybe a sense of more solitude? Who knows, but I'm glad there seem to be people who have that same desire.
Sometimes, however, it is very frustrating to live "in the meantime." What to do IN THE MEANTIME. While waiting to buy that magic piece o' farmland. While waiting to save those pennies (and LET ME TELL you, sometimes it's literally PENNIES by the end of the month). While figuring out hair-brained schemes about getting more money. While looking at foreclosure listings. While looking in way-out-in-the-boonies-snakes-won't-even-live-here-but-it's cheap listings. While writing a city to farm magazine in the hopes of shaking off some of the "farm yen."
I remember telling myself a few years ago, it might take a couple of years to get a farm. This is before I walked away from a somewhat decent paying, but really difficult-place-to-work situation in 2007. Even with every freelance gig I could take, it easily became a dream that was--and is--slipping further and further away...hmm...
Sometimes, I get lucky--I can run off to a friend's farm and work on wild herbs (those dirty shoes at the top were from last summer's herb gathering project in the Catskills). But even these little excursions don't really stop the neverending ache to get dirty fingers and mucky shoes and all that. Yes, I am a weirdo, but you knew that.....
Just my two cents for the day--especially since I am stuck inside with horrible weather and--you know--stuck IN THE CITY.
Hmm, in the meantime, I will keep writing about things that seem to have some merit in the topsy-turvy little world of mine. This includes Lovemongering, which I keep forgetting should be Thursdays. I think I'll try to couple it with other little daily stories. And of course, there is Weedy Wednesdays, now (thanks for the input about that, guys!) So, there's a little bit of a schedule here.
Today's post on Lovemongering--hey, surprise, it's animals again! That was totally unexpected, right? All joking aside, this husband and wife duo are folks who I have LOOOONG admired.
They are a FARM that takes in all sorts of disabled animals. Blind Dogs, blind horses, three legged cats, deaf animals...and care for them lovingly--paying medical bills (not cheap) and getting them from everywhere (even Afghanistan!) Trust me, you will go to their website and fall in love with them and their tireless work. CLICK HERE TO SEE ROLLING DOG RANCH.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Hold on to your dream Zan-it will come true!
Love visiting Rolling Dog Ranch. They are wonderful and I loved their pics. My daughter works at our local Vets office and someone had abandoned a 3 legged(no back left foot) kitty in the parking lot a couple of months ago so guess who brought her home? :] How can you not, you know? She fits right in with our other babies!
Have a great weekend!
Kim
Thank you Kimmie--you're words are heartening. Ahh, I worked as a tech, too, and I would definitely take a three legged furry friend home :)
Zan, you must never give up on your dream, you are meant to have land, I feel it, everytime I read your words.
Your comment about the boonies was so funny, sometime I'll tell you a funny about my son and the boonies. Kids say the funniest things.
Oh, and yes the neighbors cows.
I meant to say thanks for putting Rolling Dog Ranch on your blog too, aren't animal people - THE BEST people.
Hehee, thank you for all of the sweet words! And yes, animal people ARE the best people (and artist/crafters!!) :)
