Beyond busy!!!

Hello Folks!

Yikes! Where does the time go? I guess, as is usual for this time of year, more stuff goes on OUTSIDE than inside! I can tell you for sure that this is the case with me. Gardens, bees, and general Spring/Summer mayhem ensues!

For those of you who asked, the bees are doing well--we've got three hives now--two new package bees, and one established hive (the one you saw in the last post). The package bees were more tricky to install--because they had no frames to concentrate on, the bees were flying all over the place! We also had to install new queens, who came in teensy boxes, along with the worker bees---these little boxes had to be placed between hive frames--all a bit precarious, but it turned out well, I think!

The garden probably looks like many people's gardens (except for all of the CONTAINERS since this is , after all, a CITY garden):

New eggplants, planted in buckets (we did this last year and it went amazingly well!)

Some new plants (R to L): Eggplant (they don't do well for us from seed), orange mint (we still have the chocolate mint from last year) and rosemary.

These guys are amazing! Accordian tomatoes that I saved from seed. I put them out early (April) and they survived one frost! That's why I love heirloom plants!

Plus, I am looking after another friend's garden in Brooklyn. It's funny, many people seem highly interested in the "green" sorts of things I am doing, but I am still thinking on how to make it a much larger scale operation. Much of this wrangling is part of the over-all busy-ness going on right now, and I will reveal some of this in the upcoming days--however sane or insane these plans turn out to be!! :)

Finally, I didn't forget it was Thursday...and Lovemongering, which means passing on the love. This week, I am literally passing it on, as this story comes from my friend Julie of Art and Life of Ruby's Nest. The story focuses on this sweet 3 year old with cancer. Read Julie's story, then Alexis's story, and help if you can.

Many Blessings to everyone!

Zan,

How amazing...Love the garden and bees. Started taking honey for outrageous allergies here in Austin. I have tried to grow alot of plants here..very hard because the extreme heat..cucumbers did well last year. going to keep checking back..Hot peppers grow great here ha ha ha..

Ooooh, hot peppers! I like them, but they don't get planted here because we have limited space, and not too many like the hot peppers! So, voter's choice we only do the regular peppers and some yellows and orange peppers :)

Oh your garden is glorious! I love eggplants cooked in wok with a bit of olive oil - some peppers, mushrooms, heirloom tomatoes and whatever else is on hand. Delicious! I don't grow any veggies because my husband grew up on a farm and HATES them. Too many years of picking crops I guess. Luckily my neighbor sneaks me some baskets of his abundance. Enjoy your harvest!

I'm jealous! Everything I've ever planted, usually shrivels up! My fault I guess, when it gets in the 90 degree range, I stay inside as much as possible. If it doesn't rain, then they don't get water! (Hate to admit it) I've only had flower gardens though.
